An Explorer's Guide to Northern California

Sorensen's Resort

Sorensen's is a full-service resort located in the Hope Valley along Hwy. 88 near Carson Pass in the High Sierra. If you want choices, this place has them. Lodging alternatives include a small B&B facility, 1-2 person cabins, 2-4 person cabins, group cabins, log cabins, and real homes. Their sister organization, Sorensen's Hope Valley RV Resort & Campground, has walk-in sites, tent sites, RV sites with full hook-ups and a restored 1947 trailer. There's a restaurant. There's a trout pond for kids. There are activities and workshops. There's a fly fishing school. There are relationships with artists and musicians. If you just want to relax you can, but if that's not enough this is the place that delivers the goods.

Open year-round, the resort is strategically situated in a particularly pretty area. Kirkwood Ski Area is nearby, as is Grover Hot Springs State Park; South Shore Lake Tahoe is 20 minutes away. The west fork of the Carson River is almost across the road. Hwy. 88 boasts a plethora of alpine lakes and streams with fishing, boating and swimming options galore. Hwy. 88 is a nice place to explore and Sorensen's makes a nice base camp from which to do so.

Directions: From Stockton you can drive Hwy. 88 right to the resort. From Sacramento you can take Hwy. 16 east to the junction with Hwy. 88 and then continue northeast. The resort is right on Hwy. 88 a mile before the junction of Hwy. 89 at Woodfords.
