An Explorer's Guide to Northern California

Bass Lake

Description: A 1,200 surface acre lake at 3,500 feet in the Sierra National Forest northeast of Fresno, Bass Lake has much to offer. It is four miles long and 1/2 mile wide. Water levels tend to be good until the end of summer. All types of boating are allowed; there are boat ramps, rentals and a full-service marina. Rainbow trout and kokanee salmon are stocked, and catfish, bluegill, perch, crappie and black bass ate there for the taking. Swimming beaches, hiking and equestrian trails complete the mix. Wassama Roundhouse State Historic Park is nearby. If you want to explore this area, there is a very fine roadtrip that can start or end here that takes you through some pretty country in the Sierra National Forest.
