Woods and Red Lakes*

Woods Lake

Description: Two more lakes in the Silver Lake area. Red Lake is managed by the State Dept. of Fish and Game and offers two undeveloped campgrounds and an unimproved boat ramp. It is stocked with brook trout and offers boating but no motors. It is the larger lake of the two. Woods Lake sits at 8,200 feet just 2 miles from Highway 88 and offers a campground with a nice picnic area and facilities for the handicapped. A trail to Lost Cabin Mine is nearby. Woods Lake is a bit of a hidden gem, very pretty with a nicely situated forest service campground. Hiker/anglers can take a 5 mile round trip jaunt to Winnemucca Lake at 9,000 feet and fish for eastern brook or Kamloops trout using a float tube or raft. If you can tread water and cast at the same time that works too.
