NorCal Roadtrips

An Explorer's Guide to Northern California

National Forests of Northern California

There are 14 National Forests in our area of exploration:

Eldorado Klamath Plumas Sierra
Mendocino Lassen Shasta-Trinity Stanislaus
Inyo Modoc Six Rivers Tahoe
Los Padres     Humboldt-Toiyabe

Click on any "live" links to read about roadtrips within forest boundaries. We have selected roads that either lead to an important destination or are valuable in their own right. We have focused on "major" roads that are generally passable in an SUV or better; most are suitable for passenger cars. We provide detailed information on campgrounds you will encounter on the way, as well as details about the lakes and rivers you will pass if they warrant comment. "Minor" forest service roads are generally mentioned only if they branch off from a major road and warrant mention; perhaps they lead to a close-by campground or hike.

This is a work in progress as of December 2013. In time all forests listed will be covered.

Time to go exploring!!
