New. We've added a section titled "getaways." Even those of us who like to camp don't do it every night. Others don't camp at all. This is for people who want a tip on some nice places to stay while on the road.
- Mission Ranch- Carmel. Clint Eastwood saved this beautiful parcel from development on the southern end of Carmel and turned it into a fine retreat with a pretty good restaurant. It's not on the ocean; it backs onto pasture land with grazing sheep and wonderful Pt. Lobos off in the distance. You can sleep in the original farmhouse or a series of cottages and outbuildings. The scenic Carmel Mission, Pt. Lobos State Park and Big Sur are very close-in.
- Requa Inn- Klamath. A historic inn perched above the mouth of the Klamath River close to one of the best places in the west to watch for migrating whales. Family-owned and furnished with antiques and fine linens in classic B&B style.
- Waters Edge- Tiburon. A small joie de vivre property on the Tiburon waterfront within a stones throw of the ferries to San Francisco and Angel Island State Park. All of the quality restaurants are within easy walking distance and it's a short bike ride or drive to the Marin County sections of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area: Fort Point and the Marin Headlands.
